Thomas Edison: Illustration

Thomas Edison was the first of the illustrations for the client, A. Williams, and was to be the leading chapter. The style of this drawing was partly inspired by the subject, but it set the tone and style of the rest of the illustrations. Edison was a favorite personality for the author. He wanted me to capture the thoughtfulness, the passion, the spark of ideas, and the genius that drove the inventor. The image above is the final illustration. Below are a preparatory rough drawing, and the final page layout.

(This illustration and the preparatory rough is from the portfolio of D.K. Pritchett, c.1998; the page layout and text are by the author, A. Williams).
